Bayawan City’s Jerelyn De Oca earns prestigious U.S. Navy honor

Filipino sailor Seaman Jerelyn De Oca from Bayawan City has been recognized as Blue Jacket of the Quarter at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River in Maryland, marking another milestone in a rising U.S. Navy career built on discipline, precision, and exceptional performance.

The recognition highlights De Oca’s outstanding contribution as a logistics specialist, coming just months after also being named Blue Jacket of the Year for NAS Patuxent River in 2025.

De Oca has served in the U.S. Navy for just one year but has already distinguished herself through high-volume operational support work that directly contributes to naval aviation readiness.

Logistics performance stands out

During the recent quarter, De Oca processed more than 11,000 requisitions valued at over $46.5 million through the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System, ensuring critical aviation supply requirements were met accurately and efficiently.

She also served as a secondary material obligation validation manager, completing 42 MOV reports with full documentation and timely submission, further strengthening operational accountability within her command.

The Blue Jacket of the Quarter award recognizes junior sailors who demonstrate exceptional dedication to duty and performance that exceeds assigned responsibilities, making De Oca’s selection a reflection of consistent excellence under demanding conditions.

Filipino sailor earns recognition

De Oca emphasized pride in her achievement, noting her journey from the Philippines to the United States Navy and her commitment to setting a standard of excellence within her command.

NAS Patuxent River, home to Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, conducts more than 200,000 air operations annually and serves as a key hub for U.S. naval aviation logistics, testing, and development.

Within this high-tempo environment, De Oca’s performance underscores the critical role of logistics specialists in maintaining global naval readiness and operational efficiency across a complex, multi-agency military infrastructure.
