DOST-TAPI unveils finalists for NICE 2026 national invention contest in Manila

After a nationwide evaluation of 764 submissions through the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits by Cluster (ClusteRICE) 2025, the Department of Science and Technology–Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) is set to stage the 2026 National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) on April 27–28, 2026, at Acacia Hotel Manila in Muntinlupa City.

The event serves as the national culmination of ClusteRICE, bringing together 28 finalists from across the Philippines. These entries represent some of the most promising Filipino inventions, utility models, industrial designs, and research-based innovations with potential for real-world application and commercialization.

DOST-TAPI said NICE 2026 highlights a structured innovation pipeline that helps identify and support technologies addressing real-world needs across communities and industries. The program is designed to move innovations from regional recognition toward broader development and adoption.

The finalists cover categories under the Tukas, Unlad, Banghay, Likha, and Sibol Awards, spanning health, agriculture, mobility, disaster resilience, digital technology, environmental sustainability, and student-led innovation.

DOST-TAPI Director Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena emphasized that every innovation reflects Filipino creativity and problem-solving aimed at improving everyday life through science and persistence. She noted that the program provides a national platform for visibility, support, and growth opportunities.

Entries were evaluated based on technical merit, socio-economic impact, commercialization readiness, and category compliance. These criteria ensure that selected Filipino inventions have strong potential for practical application and societal benefit.

Beyond the competition, NICE 2026 also opens pathways for intellectual property support, technology development assistance, financing opportunities, and possible international exposure for finalists.
