The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games has officially opened applications for its volunteer programme, Jambaar26, inviting individuals from Senegal and beyond to participate in Africa’s first Olympic sporting event. The programme aims to recruit over 6,000 volunteers to support both competition and non-competition operations.

Named after the Wolof word jambaar, meaning “hero,” the initiative highlights the essential role volunteers will play in ensuring a successful and inclusive Games. Participants will gain hands-on experience in event logistics, transport, accreditation, ceremonies, media services, and spectator support, while contributing to the global celebration of youth sport.

A programme open to all

Jambaar26 welcomes anyone interested in volunteering, with applicants required to be at least 18 years old and have a basic command of French and English. Selected volunteers will take part in training sessions and must be available for at least 10 days during the Games, which run from 31 October to 13 November 2026.

The programme provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience behind the scenes of an international sporting event, meet athletes from around the world, and contribute to a positive and inspiring atmosphere for Senegalese communities and visitors alike.

National tour to mobilise volunteers

From 1 to 7 December 2025, the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee will conduct a National Volunteer Tour across all 14 regions of Senegal to promote Jambaar26 and facilitate registrations. The tour begins in Thiès and continues through key regions including Fatick, Kédougou, Kaolack, Louga, Kolda, Kaffrine, Sédhiou, Saint-Louis, Matam, Tambacounda, and Ziguinchor, culminating in a final event in Dakar on 14 December.

During the tour, organisers will meet local authorities, associations, and aspiring volunteers, sharing information about roles, requirements, benefits, and the registration process. The initiative emphasizes teamwork, inclusion, and solidarity while fostering enthusiasm for the Dakar 2026 YOG.

The Games will feature 2,700 of the world’s top young athletes, aged up to 17, competing across three host sites: Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. Jambaar26 volunteers will play a critical role in delivering an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators.
