City Express by Marriott to debut in Asia Pacific with two Osaka hotel conversions
Pacifica Hotels G.K. has signed a franchise agreement with Marriott International to bring City Express by Marriott to Japan. The agreement involves the conversion of two existing hotels in Osaka.
After full renovations, the properties are expected to reopen in spring 2026. They will operate as City Express by Marriott Osaka Namba South and City Express by Marriott Osaka Shin-Imamiya. This launch will mark the brand’s debut in Asia Pacific.
City Express by Marriott offers modern and accessible accommodations for value-conscious travelers. The brand targets urban, suburban, and emerging destinations. Business and leisure travelers can enjoy comfortable rooms with ample space to relax.

Marriott, Pacifica push value segment amid rising hotel rates
Shawn Hill, Marriott International’s chief development officer for Asia Pacific excluding China, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to strategic growth. He noted the brand will leverage Marriott Bonvoy’s loyalty and distribution platform. The aim is to strengthen Marriott’s midscale portfolio in Japan.
Pacifica Hotels CEO Seth Sulkin highlighted the rising hotel rates in Japan. He said the new hotels provide affordable, high-quality accommodations. Travelers will also discover the vibrant Nishinari Ward south of Namba, a growing tourism area.

Osaka locations to serve key transport hubs and attractions
City Express by Marriott Shin-Imamiya will feature 100 guest rooms in a nine-story building. It is located beside Shin-Imamiya Station, served by the JR Osaka Loop Line, Nankai Main Line, and Osaka Metro. The location provides direct access across Osaka and the Kansai region, including Kansai International Airport via the Nankai Main Line.
City Express by Marriott Osaka Namba South will offer 143 rooms in a 14-story building near Hanazonochō Station on the Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line. The hotel sits along National Route 26. It is surrounded by commercial and residential buildings, offering convenient access to central Osaka.
Both hotels are near major retail, business, and leisure districts. Attractions include Abeno Harukas, Namba, Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, Tennoji, Osaka Dome, and Osaka Castle Park. Marriott said the openings reinforce its focus on well-located, accessible midscale accommodations.
