Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) has launched the Canon Academy in partnership with the Kigali Center for Photography as part of Kigali Visual Encounters 2025. The three-day programme runs from October 27–29 at the Institut Français in Kigali and is exclusively for Canon customers seeking practical photography and videography skills.

Aligned with Canon’s Kyosei philosophy of “Living and Working Together for the Common Good,” the Canon Academy Rwanda aims to boost creative-sector capacity across the region. The initiative targets both aspiring and professional photographers and offers certified instruction designed to strengthen technical and creative practice.

Hands-on workshops led by certified trainers

The Canon Academy will deliver beginner to advanced workshops covering camera settings, composition and lighting techniques. Certified Canon trainers and industry professionals — including Jacques Nkinzingabo of the Kigali Center for Photography and Raul Gabat of Canon — will lead sessions that combine classroom learning with practical fieldwork.

Participants will test Canon mirrorless and DSLR systems, such as the R50, R50V, R100, R10 and R8, in interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises. Outdoor sessions, including a street photography workshop supported by Canon Selphy printers, will let attendees produce and review physical prints as part of the learning process.

Real-world experience, networking and certification

The programme concludes with a Canon Academy Hangout and certificate ceremony, giving participants networking opportunities and formal recognition of their skills. Canon Central and North Africa says the academy reflects its strategic commitment to education, innovation and expanding the creative economy in Africa.
