Major initiatives positioning Africa at the forefront of global innovation were announced at Unstoppable Africa 2025 in New York, underscoring the continent’s growing role in the global economy. The announcements reflect Africa’s shift toward homegrown solutions, advanced technologies, and long-term planning to tackle pressing challenges.

Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Executive Chairman of Econet Global and Cassava Technologies, revealed plans for Africa’s first AI factories powered by NVIDIA GPUs. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, these facilities will provide the infrastructure for local AI development, fueling innovation and boosting Africa’s participation in the global AI economy.

AI and digital transformation lead announcements

Meta, represented by Kojo Boakye, Vice President for Public Policy in Africa, the Middle East and Turkey, outlined upcoming investment opportunities in Africa’s digital ecosystem. This commitment signals growing confidence in the continent’s tech sector and aligns with initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure and regional integration.

The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), in collaboration with African Pension and Social Security Institutions, launched the “Africa Savings for Growth” initiative. With at least $1.17 trillion in institutional assets identified across the continent, the initiative aims to channel long-term savings into investments supporting inclusive growth.

The Global Africa Business Initiative also unveiled two new Action Pathways—Digital Transformation and Healthcare. The first focuses on expanding internet access, improving digital governance, supporting small businesses, and promoting responsible AI. The healthcare pathway aims to boost medical access, build supply chains, and strengthen Africa’s healthcare workforce.

Forum highlights innovation and resilience

Day Two of Unstoppable Africa 2025 featured discussions on new partnerships, Africa’s creative industries, and the continent’s digital trajectory. Cultural and business figures including Ava DuVernay, Tiwa Savage, chef Marcus Samuelsson, Paralympian Mpumelelo Tevin Mhlongo, and youth climate champion Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun-Githae brought global attention to Africa’s innovation and resilience.

Closing the event, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed underscored Africa’s strength in shaping its own narrative, emphasizing that Unstoppable Africa is a platform for empowerment, innovation, and sustainable progress.
