GENERATIONS releases New Single ‘Two Steps Back’ in PRODUCE 6IX COLORS Project
On April 7, 2025, Japanese boyband GENERATIONS released their highly anticipated new single, ‘Two Steps Back’. This song is the third installment in the group’s PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, which features new music from each of the band’s six members over six consecutive months. The track, produced by Alan Shirahama, the group’s leader, and Shintaro Yasuda, a Grammy-nominated producer, showcases a blend of emotional depth and global sound.
The song’s repeating hook and rhythmic beats reflect the tactics of love and the distance often felt between partners. The balance of sorrow and hope encapsulated in the song’s sound mirrors the complexities of relationships, with a distinct yet accessible musical style. The accompanying lyric video, animated by illustrator Nui, offers a retro 1990s feel, adding to the nostalgia of the song’s aesthetic.
A Global Collaboration
Shintaro Yasuda, the talented Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter, DJ, and musician, played a crucial role in shaping the sound of ‘Two Steps Back’. Yasuda’s credits include collaborations with major international artists, such as Ariana Grande on “Off the Table” and LISA of BLACKPINK on “Dream” from her solo album, Alter Ego. His production helps elevate the single with a vibrant and contemporary feel that complements the group’s signature style.
A Milestone for GENERATIONS
Since their debut in November 2012 with the single ‘BRAVE IT OUT’, GENERATIONS has gained global recognition for their musical versatility. They have toured worldwide, including two world tours in 2015 and 2017, as well as domestic arena tours in 2016 and 2017. Their landmark 2017 world tour was followed by their first domestic dome tour, solidifying their presence both at home and abroad.
In 2019, they launched their five-dome tour, attracting 460,000 fans, and in the same year, they made their first appearance on NHK’s prestigious New Year’s TV show, ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’.
Looking ahead, GENERATIONS is embracing new challenges. In April 2024, they were appointed as Taiso Nippon Support Ambassadors, and their May 2024 track, ‘Endless Journey’, was selected as the official support song for the Japanese gymnastics team at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
PRODUCE 6IX COLORS continues to be one of the most exciting projects for GENERATIONS, offering fans a unique and dynamic listening experience. Over six consecutive months, each of the six members will release a new single, culminating in a grand arena tour in the fall of 2025.
