Bombardier Defense expands presence in Australia with Challenger 650 acquisition for ISR missions
Bombardier Defense has expanded its reach in the Asia-Pacific region with the sale of two Challenger 650 aircraft to Principle Finance, a key provider of customized aircraft leases in Australia. These aircraft, scheduled for delivery in 2026, will be deployed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to enhance defense operations across vast territories.
“This purchase represents a major milestone for Bombardier Defense, increasing our presence in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Executive Vice President of Aircraft Sales & Bombardier Defense. “Our aircraft are the platform of choice due to their reach, persistence, and performance, as well as our extensive services and support ecosystem in the country.”

Harrison Langrell, Managing Director of Principle Finance, emphasized the aircraft’s role in their fleet. “We are excited to integrate the Bombardier Challenger 650 into our operations, leveraging its exceptional performance and reliability for enhanced surveillance and security capabilities.”
Challenger 650: A premier ISR platform
The Challenger 650 is widely regarded as an ideal ISR platform due to its ability to fly higher, faster, and farther than traditional airborne systems. With a range of 4,000 nautical miles and endurance of up to 11 hours, it provides extended operational reach with lower acquisition and operating costs compared to larger surveillance aircraft.
In addition to its performance, the aircraft’s flexibility allows for extensive mission-specific modifications. It supports advanced ISR payloads and provides a stable platform for surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence-gathering operations.
