NBA: Dallas Mavericks sign Trey Burke; Cauley-Stein to sit out

The Dallas Mavericks have signed free agent guard Trey Burke for the rest of the season.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon first reported about the team’s interest in getting the 6-3 Burke’s services.

Burke averaged 9.7 PPG and 2.6 APG as a member of the Mavs last season. He was acquired in a trade that involved Kristaps Porzingis.

Now Burke, the 9th overall pick of the 2013 draft, has a chance to make impact for Dallas again.

However, Dallas will be without center Willie Cauley-Stein in Orlando when the games resume.

The big man chose to be with his family as he and his wife are expecting a baby to be born in July.

Cauley-Stein was traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Mavericks for a draft pick.

The Mavericks are in the playoff picture right now with a 40-27 record, good for 7th seed in the Western Conference and just 1.5 games behind the 5th seed.
