WATCH: Lin Manuel Miranda Releases ‘Hamilton’ First Teaser For Disney Plus

Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator and producer of the “Hamilton” theater production has released the first trailer to the award-winning Broadway musical, which will be heading for the first time on the screen via the streaming platform Disney Plus.

Set for a July 3 release, “Hamilton” features Miranda and a bevy of stars like Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Anthony Ramos, Jonathon Groff, Okieriete Onaodowan and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

Following its success on the stage, “Hamilton” was supposed to be released for the first time in theaters on October 2021. According to Variety, Disney decided to move up its big-screen debut nearly a year ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic, with most people staying home.

Reportedly, Miranda was paid $75 million for the rights to screen the musical, which is said to be a “mighty fee” for a show that launched on Broadway in 2015. The big-screen offering of “Hamilton” is still in the works, once it’s safer to return to the movie house when this pandemic has been controlled.

The screen release of “Hamilton” has been highly anticipated due to its pedigree. It won 11 of 16 nominations at the Tony Awards in 2016. It was also named for a Pulitzer Prize for drama in that same year.

“Hamilton” details the life of Alexander Hamilton (played by Miranda), one of the Founding Fathers of America. The musical is inspired by the book written by historian Ron Chernow. The show uses R&B, soul, hip hop and pop music, as well as traditional show tunes. Its modern-storytelling method, amid a period historical story, has drawn a lot of praises that helped a younger generation understand the history of America.

The musical kicked off as production in Vassar College in 2013 and became a big success in North America and the West End.
