Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Finds Lead Stars
The live-action adaptation of Peter Pan & Wendy from Disney is finally coming together. The studio has found its lead stars among a bunch of newcomers.
Peter Pan will be played by Alexander Molnoy, a young actor who hails from New Zealand. Wendy will be played by Ever Anderson, the daughter of director Paul W.S. Anderson and actress Milla Jovovich.
The live-action movie was initially pegged for release on Disney Plus, the studio’s streaming platform, per Variety. Peter Pan & Wendy will instead be will be running on the big screen. Disney, however, hasn’t set the film’s release date but it will potentially be ready for 2021. h
Production for the movie will begin this April in Vancouver, Canada and could wrap up in August.
Peter Pan & Wendy is based on Disney’s 1953 animated classic, which was adapted from J.M. Barrie’s novel. The animation debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and is one of Disney’s most successful cartoons.
The story centers on a boy who doesn’t age and the children he has taken with him to Neverland. He visits the home of the Darlings and meets Wendy and her younger brothers. Peter Pan teaches them to fly and then takes them to Neverland, where they have the adventure of a lifetime. The classic tale has been remade a few times in the movies via Hook starring Robin Williams and Pan with Hugh Jackman.
Since April 2016, Disney has been developing Peter Pan & Wendy after the success of the live-action Cinderella at the box office. The studio announced that David Lowery will be directing the movie with Toby Halbrooks writing the screenplay. Two years later, Disney said that it will be coming to its streaming service but the studio later revealed, as it announced its cast, that it could be up for a theatrical release.
