Mercedes-Benz Trophy set for biggest invitational golf tourney

A merry mix-up of cast, featuring Mercedes-Benz owners and clients, sponsors and guests, gear up for another friendly but competitive duel in what promises to be the biggest Mercedes Trophy Golf Invitational on March 16 at the posh Sta. Elena Golf Club.

Organizers of the annual 18-hole tournament are guaranteeing an explosive edition, this being the championship’s 15th year with the event expected to draw more than 200 bidders for the Asian and World Finals berths in Australia and Germany, respectively.

Kicking off the celebration is the traditional Mercedes Trophy Sponsors and Champions Night at Makati Shangri-La on Monday featuring last year’s winners, sponsors’ representatives and VIPs, along with the confirmed players for the upcoming event.

A putting challenge will spice up the bash set to start at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the 27-hole Sta. Elena layout, kept in championship form all year-long, is expected to provide a true test of golf for the participants in the event backed by Platinum sponsors Makati Shangri-La, Philippine Airlines, PLDT Alpha, Paramount General Insurance, Shell and TW Steel. The winners in men’s division, along with the ladies champion, will represent the Philippines in the MercedesTrophy Asian Finals set in Brisbane in August.

The best Filipino placer in the regional finals, supported by Gold sponsors Boysen, Boss, Business Mirror, Cole Hann, Primal Enterprises Corp., Remy Martin and Security Bank, will then head to the World Finals set in October.

While gaining the chance to slug it out with other regional winners, participants in the Asian Finals will also be treated to an experiential drive showcasing the world-class performance and dynamic handling of M-Benz vehicles.
