NBA trade: Iguodala traded by Grizzlies to Miami Heat; Gallinari next?

The Memphis Grizzlies have finally granted Andre Iguodala’s wish, sending him to the Miami Heat in exchange for Justise Winslow a day before the 2020 NBA trade deadline.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the transaction, stating that the elder statesman agreed to a 2-year extension with the Heat.

The swingman’s deal includes a team option in the 2nd year, giving a bit of flexibility for the Heat.

The Heat are currently 4th in the Eastern Conference with a 34-15 record but are just 1.5 games behind the 2nd spot.

Being in Miami fulfills Iguodala’s desire to be in a contending team.

In a later tweet, Woj said the Heat are also in pursuit of Oklahoma City Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari, who will bring even more depth to the Heat roster.

Meanwhile, Winslow’s addition to the Grizzlies boosts their young core even further.

As noted by The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Grizzlies have done sterling moves over the past season, transforming the franchise into a playoff level squad this year.

Iguodala is a 3-time NBA champion, the 2016 Finals MVP, and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist.
