SEA Games 2019: Fajardo dominates, Gilas Pilipinas beats Vietnam by 41
June Mar Fajardo had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Gilas Pilipinas Men beat Vietnam, 110-69 using a second half rally Friday to stay unbeaten in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in Manila.
The 5-time PBA MVP dominated the paint against the hapless Vietnamese, chipping in a double-double in just over 15 minutes of play.
LA Tenorio and Vic Manuel had 14 points each, as 6 Gilas players finished with 10 or more markers.
Troy Rosario added 12 points while Stanley Pringle had 11 markers.
The nationals started pulling away late in the 1st quarter when Fajardo scored of his 11 points.
From a slim 52-40 halftime lead, the Philippines went on a huge unanswered run to make it 62-42 early in the 3rd frame before continuing with their romp in the 4th canto.
The lead reached as high as 43, with all Gilas players scoring.
The home side shot 49% overall and had a whopping 69 rebounds.
They will enter the semi-finals of the SEA Games basketball tournament against either Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia.
Gilas will wound up its elimination round campaign against the lowly Myanmar tomorrow.
