Ladies take spotlight at TOPS ‘Usapang Sports’

IT’S a woman’s world as the Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) plays host to three of the more exciting ladies in local sports in the 16th “Usapang Sports” at the National Press Club in Intramuros this Thursday, March 28.

Philippine Oympic Committee (POC) deputy secretary-general Karen Tanchanco-Caballero, World Rugby Council member Ada Milby and Beach Volleyball Republic founder Bea Tan will talk about various issues in sports, including the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Nov. 30-Dec. 12.

Also guesting in the two-part forum are Philippine national women’s basketball team coach Pat Aquino and Burn Soriano of Cage Gladiators.

Caballero will give an update on the recent Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) General Assembly last week, as well as plans of the Philippine Sepak Takraw Association which she now heads.

The Go for Gold-supported sepak takraw team under Caballero captured one silver and three bronzes in the 2018 King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championships held in Nakhon Rachasima, Thailand last October.

Milby, team captain of the Philippine rugby team which bagged the bronze medal in the 2015 SEA Games, will share her insights on the sport in the country.

A proponent of the highly-successful “Get into Rugby” program by the Philippine Rugby Football Union in 2013, Milby was nominated as one of the three deputy chef de missions by 30th SEAG chef de mission Monsour del Rosario.

Tan, one of the co-founders of the widely-followed BVR On Tour, will talk about their latest tournament where she teamed-up with Dij Rodriguez to win the Sta. Fe Open in Bantayan Island, Cebu recently.

A one-minute silent prayer will also be offered by TOPS to Karen’s father and former PASTA head Gen. Mario Tanchanco, who passed away last week.

TOPS president Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight is inviting all officers and members and friends in the sports community, to attend the 10 a.m. forum supported by the Philippine Sports Club and NPC.

TOPS is composed of sports editors, reporters and photographers of the country’s leading tabloids.

Aside from the weekly sports forum, TOPS is also actively paying tribute to outstanding achievers through its TOPS “Athlete of the Month”.

Past TOPS awardees are boxing hero Manny Pacquiao (January) and swimming champion Micaela Jasmin Mojdeh (February).
