No one knew that Jon Hamm would be making a brief guest appearance on “Last Man On Earth,” which premiered its new season Sunday, Sept. 25 on Fox. The actor’s cameo marked a reunion of sorts with January Jones, who worked alongside Hamm in the AMC series “Mad Men.”
Only, January Jones shot Jon Hamm’s character in his cameo on “Last Man On Earth” so it’s not likely we’ll be seeing more Don Draper-Betty Draper dynamics in the comedy series.
“I called him up just to see if he had any interest,” Will Forte, the star of “Last Man On Earth” and also the show’s creator told Entertainment Weekly. “Hadn’t really even thought about the Mad Men connection, oddly enough. He said it sounded like fun, and I told our writers and they said, “It’s so crazy that Betty’s going to shoot Don!” and I was like, “Oh! That’s right! Oh s—!” [Laughs] We were just so busy working on stuff, my brain is always at about half-mast.”
January Jones was apparently quite excited about the having Jon Hamm on the show. Will Forte said that the actress immediately saw the connection.
Jon Hamm’s casting didn’t even make in the papers these past months, or while the show started filming. Only TV Line hinted of the cameo in a blind item, which was brought up last summer.
