‘High School Musical’ Cast Reuniting for 10th Anniversary on Disney Channel Jan. 20
It’s been 10 years since the debut of “High School Musical” and the original Disney movie will stage a reunion of the cast in a special that is airing on the cable network Wednesday.
Cast members Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel will be in the reunion show, while Zac Efron pre-taped his message, per TV Line. The TV musical special, which debuted in Jan. 2006, was a hit among the channel’s young viewers and its soundtrack became one of that year’s number one albums.
“High School Musical” was about sports star Troy (Efron) and new girl Gabriella (Hudgens) who both try out for the school play and connect with their undeniable chemistry, but clique leaders in the school try everything to separate them. Th show received Emmy nominations, Billboard award and other recognitions.
“Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere — express yourself, believe in yourself, and always follow your dreams,” said Disney Channel head Gary Marsh in a press release.
The original movie will also be re-aired on the the Disney Channel on Jan. 20, while it’s sequel “High School Musical 2” will be re-aired the next day.
