Shumpert gets the assist by delivering baby daughter

WASHINGTON – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert helped deliver his infant daughter Thursday morning as fiancee and musician Teyana Taylor gave birth in a bathroom, she posted on social media.
The baby, Iman Tayla Shumpert Jnr, was born at 6:42 in the morning, according to her Instagram posting. Taylor said she did not realize she was in labor until she felt he baby’s head.
”Tt took two ten-count pushes with my fiance’ playing Dr. and she entered this world into his bare hands,” Taylor wrote with a photo of baby and daddy accompanying the post.
”Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made there grand entrance 5 min later.”
The birth came about three weeks earlier than the expected January 16, 2006, due date that Shumpert had shared on his Facebook account.
”She has blown Christmas away,” Taylor said. ”Her blueprint will be unmatched. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you.”
Shumpert proposed to Taylor last month with a ruby engagement ring at her baby shower.
The Cavaliers rules Shumpert out of Thursday’s game against Oklahoma City with a right groin strain.
Shumpert, 25, is averaging 10 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists a game for the Cavaliers this season. In his sixth NBA campaign, Shumpert has career averages of 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists a game. (AFP)
