Streaming site giant Netflix has announced its plans to do a remake of the 1965 science fiction cult series “Lost in Space.” The company won the project in a bidding war that had other networks also taking interest, according to Deadline.

The news outlet also reported that the upcoming version will be a grand tale about a young family of explorers who will find themselves drifting over to an alien universe.  They will encounter several mishaps and challengers as they struggle to stay alive together.

The new TV show will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless with Kevin Burns serving as executive producer. Burns has long been interested in redeveloping the show, which has yet to score a greenlit until today.

“Lost in Space” originally ran for three seasons back in the 60s and followed the story of the Robinsons family against their enemy Dr. Zachary Smith, who was the sole reason as to why their space travels veered off course.

Netflix promises the updated series will be a spectacle that will keep the whole family entertained. Watch a clip of the original series below.
