‘Quantico’ on ABC Dubbed the ‘Best New Series’ of the Season; Show Starring Priyanka Chopra Premieres Sunday, Sept 27

The latest spy drama thriller “Quantico” on ABC has been receiving rave reviews from TV critics. It may be this season’s best new series yet.

The show stars Priyanka Chopra, who is a Bollywood star and who once won the Miss World crown, as Alex Parrish, who just came out of FBI training. She and her classmates became the prime suspects in a terrorist attack on New York, but Parrish must learn who among her classmates is really responsible to prove that she’s innocent. Parrish pays her old classmates a visit, even as she ends up risking her life in the process.

“Any actress worth her salt would have wanted to do this part, because she’s an action heroine, but at the same time, she’s vulnerable and feminine, and she’s a celebration of everything female,” said Chopra of her character, according to Yahoo. “The strength of a female, the weaknesses of a female, our emotions, but at the same time, our ability to be able to overcome anything. We multitask really well, we have the balls to be able to be tough and deal with life. Alex does all of that together. I mean, she’s slowly becoming my hero. She’s someone I would want to grow up and be. Every time I [film] her, I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s so badass. It’s so cool. I wish I could do that in real life.’”

Joshua Safran is the series’ showrunner. His credits include working on “Smash” and “Gossip Girl.” “I said to myself, ‘What can I do that stretches me a little bit? What else do I love?’ ” said Safran, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I love musicals, I love period pieces, I love soaps, and I love action movies. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll do action.’ “

Safran likens his show to “Die Hard” but with a soap opera twist. The show premieres tonight, Sept. 27, Sunday at 10:00 p.m. on ABC
