There were rumors “Scream” wasn’t going to move on with a second season on MTV a few weeks ago. But now, fans of the thriller can no breathe a sigh of relief as the network has just given the show another season.

“[W]e are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream. We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns,” announced  the network through its EVP Mina Lefevre in a statement, according to TV Line.

The show, which debuted five weeks ago and has been strong and steady at 7.9 million viewers in different platforms to date, is about the emergence of a serial killer named Brandon James in a small town called Lakewood and it is based on the 1996 slasher film franchise by Wes Craven which starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

The series stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Carlson Young, Connor Weil and Tracy Middendorf. Bella Thorne was in the first few minutes of the debut episode and played the very first victim of the serial killer.

“We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in season two,” said Bob Weinstein, the co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films, the producer of the series, according to Comic Book.

The date for the return of the second season has yet to be confirmed.
