The National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) is calling on the public to join Earth Hour 2026 on 28 March 2026 (Saturday) at Rizal Park Luneta, joining millions worldwide in a collective effort to protect the planet.

Organized in support of the global movement led by World Wide Fund for Nature, Earth Hour began in 2007 as a symbolic lights-off event and has grown into the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaign. Now in its 20th year, the campaign carries the theme “Switch On Habits for Earth,” highlighting that meaningful change goes beyond one hour and is maintained through everyday actions.

Full day of activities at Rizal Park

This year’s observance transforms the historic landmark into a hub for environmental awareness, sustainability education, and community engagement. Visitors can experience a variety of activities that demonstrate practical ways to live sustainably.

  • Tree of Habits – Attendees can write and hang environmental pledges on leaf-shaped cards, contributing to a collective “tree” of actions supporting the planet.
  • Documentary Screening: The Foresters: A Story of Climate Keepers – A 51-minute film showcasing real stories of people dedicated to environmental protection. Two screenings will be hosted in partnership with MAD Travel.
  • Sustainability Showcase – Explore eco-friendly initiatives around the park, including the Urban Garden, Materials Recovery (MaRe!) Kiosk, and Children’s Play Garden, providing practical demonstrations of sustainable urban living.
  • Recycling and Upcycling at the MaRe! Kiosk – Participate in recycling drives and workshops promoting responsible waste management and creative reuse, in collaboration with Dewaste Solutions.
  • Give an Hour for Earth – Lights-Off Ceremony – From 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, non-essential lights across the park will be switched off. The ceremony includes illumination of the Tree of Habits and a calming Sound Bath, creating a reflective experience for participants.

Beyond the hour

The NPDC emphasizes that Earth Hour is not limited to a single evening. Through its “Beyond the Hour” campaign, the agency continues promoting sustainable practices such as urban farming, recycling, eco-friendly play spaces, and water conservation.

The public is encouraged to join the event, bring family and friends, and commit to sustainable habits that can be practiced year-round. Real change, the NPDC notes, does not end in an hour—it grows every day.
