The National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) is putting the spotlight on the power of recreation in promoting health, happiness, and longevity among older adults as part of the celebration of Elderly Filipino Week. The agency invites the public to the 4th session of PARKonversations Live!, a special seminar titled “Recreation is Golden: Finding the Fountain of Youth in Parks,” happening on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Gallery, Rizal Park, Luneta. Admission is free and open to everyone.

Leading the discussion is Dr. Jose Antonio “Jobim” Bimbao, a Landscape Architect and senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines College of Architecture. With a research focus on active mobility and recreation, Dr. Bimbao integrates his passion for cycling with landscape design to develop healthier and more engaging public spaces.

Parks as spaces for health and connection

Fresh from completing his Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Design at Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan, Dr. Bimbao will share valuable international perspectives on how green spaces—from riverside walkways to senior-friendly parks—can promote physical activity, mental wellness, and social connection among older adults. His talk will highlight how recreation acts as a “fountain of youth,” keeping people active, mentally sharp, and socially engaged as they age.
