Metro Manila has always been a tough place to commute. Noise, fumes, and unpredictable taxis have shaped the daily struggles of millions. But in just two months, Green GSM — the Philippines’ first all-electric taxi company — is proving that rides can be smooth, clean, and dependable.

Passengers say the difference is noticeable right away. Cars arrive when they should, drivers are polite, and every ride feels safe and fresh. “Compared to other apps, this one’s way more dependable,” said Gabriel Joshua R. Ancheta.

Many also notice the fresh air inside the vehicles. Gone is the usual smell of gasoline or exhaust. Instead, the cabin feels calm, with the quiet hum of the city replacing the roar of an engine. For a city so used to pollution and traffic noise, this change feels subtle but significant.

A cleaner and quieter ride

The Nerio electric vehicles in Green GSM’s fleet glide silently through Manila’s congested streets. Even when stuck in heavy traffic, the cabin stays cool and comfortable.

“The car is very clean and comfortable even in hot weather—no bad smells, very organized,” said commuter Yaj Myel Manzo. For others, the difference feels almost like an upgrade in class. “No bad smell of emission, VIP feels on the passenger seat,” added Mary Joyce L. Salazar.

What stands out most is consistency. Unlike traditional taxis, where passengers roll the dice on the condition of the car, Green GSM delivers the same experience every time. “Whenever I ride, it feels like a brand-new vehicle,” said Ancheta.

Changing the way Manila commutes

The company is also winning praise for its app. Riders describe it as straightforward and easy to use, unlike other platforms that can feel cluttered or confusing. “Creating an account and using the app is easy, and it’s very user-friendly,” Manzo explained. Ancheta agreed, saying, “It’s super simple to use… not hard to figure out, even if you’re not tech-savvy.”

For many commuters, though, the real impact is environmental. In a city where air quality is a constant worry, zero-emission taxis are more than just convenient — they feel necessary. “It’s better for people’s health and truly the best choice for transportation today,” said Manzo.

That sense of responsibility resonates with other riders too. “Whenever I take a Green GSM ride, I feel like I’m making a small impact on the environment in a good way… and the service is solid,” added Chavez.

With the Philippine ride-hailing market already valued at more than $800 million and expected to surpass $1 billion soon, Green GSM is showing that commuters are ready for change. It isn’t just another ride-hailing option — it’s setting a new benchmark for how Manila should move forward.
