Rey Mysterio, Cobra Kai, Acapulco lead 2025 NHMC impact awards honorees
The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) has announced its prestigious honorees for the 2025 NHMC Impact Awards Gala, set for Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
The event will spotlight individuals and productions that have made significant strides in promoting representation, diversity, and inclusion in the media industry.
AppleTV+ series Acapulco is receiving the Authentic Storytelling Impact Award. Known for its rich cultural narrative and comedic brilliance, the series will enter its fourth and final season this year.
Netflix’s Cobra Kai is being honored with the Ensemble Impact Award, recognized for its inclusive cast and layered storytelling that represents a broad spectrum of identities and experiences.
Cris Abrego, Co-Founder and CEO of Hyphenate Media Group and Chairman of the Television Academy, will receive the Leadership Impact Award. Abrego is acknowledged for his pioneering work as a media entrepreneur and producer.
Actress Daniella Pineda will be presented with the Outstanding Performance Impact Award for her powerful role as Anaïs in The Accountant 2, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Artists Equity.
Rising star Isabela Merced has earned the Next Generation Impact Award. With acclaimed performances in The Last of Us and the upcoming Superman as Hawkgirl, she exemplifies the future of Latinx excellence in entertainment.
Visionary director and producer Phil Lord will receive the Visionary Impact Award. His work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Los Frikis continues to redefine genre storytelling.
WWE legend Rey Mysterio is this year’s recipient of the Legend Impact Award. Mysterio’s decades-spanning influence in sports entertainment has elevated Latin representation and inspired a global fanbase.
Co-hosting the 2025 NHMC Impact Awards Gala are actors Al Madrigal and Jessica Marie Garcia.
NHMC President and CEO Brenda Victoria Castillo emphasized the significance of this year’s honorees: “We are proud to honor these visionary leaders who are not only breaking barriers but building new paths for creatives to thrive. Celebrating our community isn’t just tradition — it’s a declaration.”
The gala is part of NHMC’s broader mission to promote accurate and fair representation of the Latinx community in media and entertainment.
This year’s event is supported by AppleTV+, T-Mobile, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Google, Variety, and more. The awards committee includes leaders such as Congressman Joaquin Castro, Chanelle Hardy, and Tim McNeal.
