The CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange, part of the ambitious Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) project, is making steady progress. Currently, this 8.64-kilometer segment—linking the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive in General Trias, Cavite—is nearing 40% completion, keeping it on schedule for a target opening in the second half of 2025.

Enhancing Connectivity and Easing Congestion

Once operational, the interchange is expected to significantly improve connectivity by providing faster, seamless travel routes to General Trias and surrounding areas. This new segment will also help alleviate heavy traffic congestion on major thoroughfares such as Governor’s Drive and Aguinaldo Highway, benefiting both daily commuters and local businesses.

Strategic Infrastructure for Economic Growth

The CALAX project is designed to stretch a total of 45 kilometers—from Mamplasan Rotunda in Laguna to Kawit, Cavite—integrating with major expressways like the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX). With eight interchanges planned along the route, including key points like Laguna Technopark, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, and SM Megamall, the expressway is projected to serve up to 95,000 vehicles daily. This improved connectivity is poised to reduce travel times and boost economic activity throughout Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila.

Ongoing Construction Milestones

Construction is progressing steadily on other sections of CALAX. Notably:

  • Subsection 1 (Kawit Interchange): Over 31% complete
  • Subsection 2 (Open Canal Interchange): 21.9% complete

MPCALA Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation and the concessionaire of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway, remains committed to completing the entire stretch by 2025. This project is a vital part of their domestic portfolio, which also includes other major expressways such as CAVITEX, NLEX, and SCTEX.

Looking Ahead

With significant milestones already achieved and construction continuing on schedule, the CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange is set to transform regional mobility. When fully operational, it will not only enhance access to key areas in Cavite and Laguna but also contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
