‘Romeo and Juliet’ Sequel ‘Still Star-Crossed’ To Be Adapted On TV Via ABC

Author Melinda Taub’s “Still Star-Crossed,” the modern day sequel novel to the classic “Romeo and Juliet” is getting an adaptation on ABC. Production will be handled by a team under headed by Shonda Rhimes, the creator of “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

According to Variety, Heather Mitchell, who has written for both long-running series on the said network, is going to executive produce and write the “Romeo and Juliet” adaptation for television. It will about the families Capulets and the Montagues, following the death of their son and daughter. The novel by Taub was released in 2013 and features Benvolio, Romeo’s best friend, and Rosaline, Juliet’s cousin. The book is recommended Young Adult reading at Amazon.

Rhimes will be involved in a non-writing capacity on the show and “Still Star-Crossed” will be one of four shows that’s under her production, Shondaland, including “How To Get Away With Murder,” “The Family” and “The Catch.” Both shows are still expected to debut this midseason, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Still Star-Crossed,” on the other hand, will be part of ABC’s development slate for next season.
