Through its narrative, music, and historical setting, the performance aims to reignite national pride and appreciation for Filipino traditions.

Celebrating Filipino Identity

The story follows Kenkoy, a young Filipino who returns from the United States after struggling abroad. Influenced by foreign customs, he initially becomes detached from the traditions and humility that once defined him.

With the guidance of his loyal friend Bentot and the sincere barrio girl Neneng, Kenkoy embarks on a transformative journey of self-discovery. The narrative emphasizes the enduring value of embracing one’s heritage despite external influences.

Dr. Ferrer underscores that cultural identity remains essential regardless of changing environments. Her work reminds audiences that pride in Filipino roots must remain steadfast wherever life may lead.

The production’s message resonates strongly in modern society, where global mobility and cultural exchange often challenge traditional values. By reconnecting Kenkoy with his origins, the musical offers a powerful lesson in national pride.

A Rich Musical Heritage

“Si Kenkoy at ang Dalagang Bukid” features an impressive repertoire of Filipino musical masterpieces from some of the nation’s most celebrated composers. Works by Nicanor Abelardo, Lucio San Pedro, Ernani Cuenco, Constancio de Guzman, and other musical luminaries will shape the production’s soundscape.
