Filipina sailor earns top navy honor while building future for family

Petty Officer 2nd Class Jenly Bonifacio continues to build a distinguished career in the United States Navy while representing her roots from Pangasinan, Philippines. She is currently assigned to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Originally from Manaoag, Bonifacio graduated from Our Lady of Manaoag College in 2008 before eventually pursuing a path in military service. She joined the U.S. Navy five years ago with a clear purpose of creating a stable future for her family.

Bonifacio said her decision to enlist was driven by both service and personal goals. She emphasized that joining the Navy allowed her to build a strong foundation while supporting her loved ones.

She now serves under CNATTU Keesler, a training command that operates within the Naval Education and Training Command. NETC is recognized as the Navy’s largest shore command, overseeing tens of thousands of personnel across hundreds of global sites.

The command plays a vital role in preparing recruits for service by transforming civilians into highly trained and mission-ready sailors. Its reach spans multiple training centers, ensuring operational readiness across the fleet.

Bonifacio’s dedication has already translated into notable achievements during her time in service. She was named Sailor of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2025, a recognition that highlights her performance and commitment.

She admitted feeling both surprised and honored upon receiving the award. Bonifacio expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a humbling moment in her career.
