‘Escape The Baby Alarm’ turns real parenthood struggles into a cozy puzzle game experience on Steam

When Danish game developer and mother Julie Normann Bjørnskov became a parent, she noticed a gap in how video games portray motherhood. She felt that early parenthood was rarely shown as a complex, emotional, and lived experience in interactive storytelling.

That realization became the foundation for her upcoming indie project, Escape the Baby Alarm, now available as a public demo on Steam. The game also has plans for release on PC and mobile platforms.

The project reimagines the chaos of early parenthood through a calm, puzzle-driven experience. Instead of fast-paced pressure, players move through quiet, hand-drawn scenes inspired by everyday moments in a new parent’s life.

A cozy puzzle take on early parenthood

Escape the Baby Alarm is a short, relaxing puzzle game built around escape-room inspired mechanics. Each level transforms ordinary parenting moments into visual puzzles that players must solve at their own pace.

The game blends interactive comic-style storytelling with classic point-and-click gameplay. Scenes include small but relatable details such as messy floors, tired mornings, and emotional uncertainty about doing enough as a parent.

Bjørnskov describes the project as a personal reflection on motherhood, shaped into a playable experience. She highlights both the humor and emotional weight of parenting as key inspirations behind the design.

Gameplay built around emotion and everyday life

The game features hand-drawn environments filled with visual clues that guide puzzle-solving. Players progress through moments that represent both the practical and emotional sides of early parenthood.

One of the narrative focal points is a symbolic confrontation with the “Am I a Good Mother?” challenge, reflecting self-doubt and pressure often felt during early parenting.

Key features include short gameplay sessions, calm pacing without time limits, and puzzles inspired by real-life domestic experiences. The result is a relaxed experience designed for reflection rather than stress.

A playable demo is now available on Steam, and the developer encourages players to wishlist the game and follow its ongoing development.
