A total of 271 families from a community in Barangay Pulo, Cabuyao City received more than ₱18.7 million in housing assistance from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and the Social Housing Finance Corporation. The financial support will help residents acquire the land where their homes currently stand.

The assistance was formally awarded to Don Vicente Villas Homeowners’ Association Phase 8 through a ceremonial check turnover led by DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling and SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa on March 10. The funding will allow the beneficiaries to begin securing legal ownership of the property under the Enhanced Community Mortgage Program.

The ECMP forms part of SHFC’s housing initiatives under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino program. The program focuses on providing secure, decent, and affordable housing opportunities for Filipino families.

Helping communities secure land ownership

In his message, Laxa thanked President Marcos for entrusting SHFC with housing programs that directly benefit poor and low-income communities. He also acknowledged the directive to improve housing programs that help Filipinos access affordable homes.

“Inatasan din po tayo ni Secretary Aliling na ayusin ang mga programang kagaya nito na nagbibigay ng tulong sa ating mga kababayan na magkaroon ng abot-kayang pabahay,” Laxa said. “Masaya po kaming maging bahagi ng hakbang na ito tungo sa mas magandang kinabukasan ng inyong mga pamilya.”

Through the funding support, members of Don Vicente Villas HOA Phase 8 will be able to collectively purchase the land they occupy. This will help protect them from the risk of eviction while providing long-term security for their families.

Community expresses gratitude for housing support

Residents expressed their gratitude to the national government, DHSUD, and SHFC for helping make their dream of land ownership possible. Many beneficiaries said the assistance gives them peace of mind knowing they will no longer have to worry about displacement.

“Nagpapasalamat po kami kay President Bongbong Marcos kasi nagpatuloy po ang project na ito at sa SHFC dahil hindi po kami pinabayaan,” said HOA president Marissa Tuana. “Dahil sa kanila, natake-out po ang aming loan sa ECMP.”

A total of 41 ECMP projects nationwide have been approved by SHFC since the program was launched in July last year. These projects have already benefited more than 7,000 families seeking to secure the land where their homes are located.

Cabuyao City Mayor Dennis Hain also congratulated the beneficiaries and described the development as an important milestone for the community. He also expressed hope that the program will continue helping more families in the city.
