XG redefines meaning behind name as group enters new era
Global hip-hop and R&B group XG has officially redefined the meaning behind its name, marking a pivotal moment as all members enter their twenties. The announcement was made on Japan’s Coming-of-Age Day, reinforcing the timing as both symbolic and generational.
The group revealed that XG will now stand for “Xtraordinary Genes,” evolving from its original meaning, “Xtraordinary Girls.” The change reflects a deeper articulation of identity rather than a reinvention, positioning creativity and instinct as something embedded at the group’s core.
Since debut, XG has built its reputation on pushing past expectations with genre-blurring music and unapologetic performances. The new meaning reframes that approach as innate rather than aspirational, emphasizing origin over image.

From beginning to source
In an official statement, XG explained that “Genes” represents the creativity and power residing within their foundation, along with a drive to create culture without being bound by convention. The group emphasized continuity rather than separation, describing the evolution as a return to their source.
“Girls” represented the starting point of their journey, while “Genes” reflects what fuels their growth moving forward. Through this shift, XG reiterated its goal of empowering audiences worldwide across cultures, borders, and backgrounds.
The announcement signals a sharpening of identity rather than a stylistic pivot. It positions XG’s next phase as more intentional, grounded, and aligned with the instincts that have defined the group from the start.
A global era takes form
The name evolution coincides with the unveiling of the key visual for “XG WORLD TOUR: THE CORE,” set to open at K-Arena Yokohama on February 6, 2026. The tour follows the group’s 2024 world run, which attracted roughly 400,000 fans across 47 shows and concluded at Tokyo Dome.
Rendered in bold calligraphy mirroring their upcoming album artwork, the tour visual reflects intensity, conviction, and global ambition. Performances are planned across Japan, Asia, North America, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and additional regions.
XG’s first full-length album, “THE CORE – 核,” arrives on January 23, 2026, tracing the group’s identity across genres and eras. Featuring tracks such as “XIGNAL (The Intro),” “ROCK THE BOAT,” and pre-release single “4 SEASONS,” the album reinforces the X-POP sound XG continues to define.
As 2026 begins, XG’s embrace of “Xtraordinary Genes” signals a new chapter rooted in instinct, evolution, and creative clarity. The group moves forward not by changing who they are, but by defining it more precisely.
