BAL renovated court Côte d’Ivoire highlights push to expand youth access to basketball
The BAL renovated court Côte d’Ivoire initiative reached another milestone as the league and Wave Côte d’Ivoire unveiled a newly upgraded court at 4 Paniers in Yopougon. The project signals a continued push to widen access to safe basketball spaces while deepening community ties through sport. Over two days, local youth took part in clinics and games, reinforcing the court’s role as a gathering point for development and opportunity.
The renovation forms part of NBA Africa’s broader commitment to build or restore 1,000 courts across the continent within the next decade. The upgraded Yopougon facility now offers young athletes a modern space to practice, participate in local tournaments and engage with programs built around skill-building and personal growth.

Wave partnership strengthens grassroots growth
Leadership from Wave Côte d’Ivoire and the BAL emphasized that the collaboration is designed to produce long-term impact. Their joint efforts over the past year have included community tournaments, training sessions and new platforms for young players to connect with the sport. Both sides highlighted that the renovated court is not merely a physical upgrade but a foundation for shaping confidence, safety and future opportunities.
The partnership has also elevated the visibility of youth talent in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. Through targeted initiatives, players have been able to compete, learn and gain experiences that expand their personal and athletic horizons.
Expanding pathways for young athletes
Beyond infrastructure, the BAL-Wave collaboration has created real competitive pathways for rising players. The Tournoi des Quartiers tournaments in Abidjan and Dakar introduced a substantial prize structure and drew strong community engagement. Additional support extended to standout players, including full sponsorship for young athlete Reine Esther Yao to attend the 2025 BAL Finals in Pretoria.
The unveiling of the Yopougon court reflects an approach that blends sport, community impact and long-term youth development. As the BAL continues to invest in accessible facilities, more communities stand to benefit from spaces that promote learning, inclusion and sustained growth.
