Tyler wins inaugural Might & Magic: Fates tournament at YGG Play Summit

YGG Esports player Tyler claimed victory in the first-ever Might & Magic: Fates tournament at the YGG Play Summit in Manila. Competing against eight contenders, Tyler defeated Web3 gaming content creator Archer Perez in the finals to take home US$1,500 from the US$5,000 prize pool.

With nine years of trading card game experience, Tyler is a seasoned competitor who has earned over US$100,000 in tournaments for games like Hearthstone. For this event, he and other finalists built Haven decks, drawn to their defensive units and strategic spells. Tyler’s gameplay demonstrated precision, adaptability, and deep knowledge of TCG mechanics.

Tyler’s competitive performance and gameplay

The tournament used a single-elimination format, with best-of-1 quarterfinals and best-of-3 semi-finals and finals. Players could customize decks or use pre-built options in the game. Tyler’s deck choices and in-match decisions highlighted his strategic mastery and ability to read opponents’ moves under pressure.

Sylvain Loe Mie, Executive Producer at Ubisoft, presented the first-place prize to Tyler and praised his performance. “Tyler’s approach shows how a seasoned player can bring depth and excitement to a new TCG,” Loe Mie said, noting that insights from high-level competitors like Tyler help shape the game’s competitive future.

Expanding Web3 esports through Tyler’s showcase

Might & Magic: Fates is set in a convergence of fractured worlds, where heroes and monsters battle to defeat the opponent’s hero. Tyler’s performance highlighted the strategic depth of the game, showcasing resource management and ally deployment in high-pressure matches.

Mike Ovecka, Head of Esports at YGG, emphasized Tyler’s victory as a reflection of the Summit’s growing influence in Web3 gaming. Beyond the Arena stage, attendees explored the City of Play’s Player, Skill, and Degen Districts, with workshops and expos complementing the competitive action. Other tournaments during the Summit include the US$100,000 YGG Parallel Showdown and the US$20,000 Vibes Asian Championship, while the GAM3 Awards returns on November 21.
