AfDB delegation advances Congo partnership ahead of Brazzaville hosting 2026 Annual Meetings
A senior African Development Bank delegation completed a mission to Brazzaville as the Republic of Congo prepares to host the Bank Group’s 2026 Annual Meetings. Led by Senior Vice President Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, the visit underscored the strong partnership between the Bank and Congo and reaffirmed joint ambitions for economic transformation and regional development.
During the three-day mission, the delegation met President Denis Sassou Nguesso and high-level government officials to discuss progress tied to Congo’s 2022-2026 National Development Plan, including priorities in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and diversification. The mission also reviewed preparations for the Annual Meetings, which will take place in Brazzaville in May 2026.

Congo highlights transformational agenda and AfDB support
Meetings with senior ministers reinforced commitment to accelerating strategic projects and strengthening cooperation. Minister Ludovic Ngatsé praised the Bank’s continued backing for Congo’s diversification drive and agricultural development, stressing that deepened collaboration will support broader goals for economic resilience and job creation.
Akin-Olugbade emphasized that the Bank views Congo as a key partner in Central Africa’s development and regional integration efforts. She highlighted ongoing flagship projects in transport, energy and agriculture, including support for the African Continental Free Trade Area through improved connectivity and trade infrastructure.

The delegation inspected the Bank-financed national data centre project and acknowledged Congo’s timely preparations under the National Preparatory Committee, led by Minister Jean Jacques Bouya. A memorandum of understanding signed in September marked a key milestone toward hosting the Annual Meetings, which are expected to spotlight Congo’s reforms and development achievements.
The African Development Bank’s active portfolio in Congo totals $223 million, supporting infrastructure links across Central Africa and agricultural programs like PRODIVAC that boost productivity, food security and youth and women’s employment.
