Canon launches Colorado XL-series, bringing UVgel innovation to the 3.2m graphics market

Canon is expanding its presence in the large-format printing segment with the launch of the Canon Colorado XL-series, a 3.4m printer platform that brings UVgel technology to the 3.2m graphics market. The series is designed to help print providers deliver consistent quality across a wide range of media while increasing productivity.
The new platform is available in hybrid and roll-to-roll models. Both configurations can print on banner, paper, vinyl, films, soft signage, foam board, aluminium composite boards, and other flexible and rigid substrates. With speeds of up to 211m² per hour in express mode, the printers are built for high-demand environments.
Precision curing and media handling
A key innovation in the Canon Colorado XL-series is UVgel FullBeam Curing, which uses a 3.4m-wide LED curing array and a mirror system to deliver even UV light across the print width. This ensures consistent colour and supports a broader gamut on large surfaces.
Media transport has also been upgraded through the UVgel TRIdrive vacuum belt system, which combines three interactive rollers with multiple vacuum zones. This setup minimizes wrinkling and skewing by automatically detecting and correcting media alignment. As a result, prints maintain accurate positioning and sharp detail on both rigid and flexible materials.
The printers are powered by new UVgel 850 PrintHeads, each containing 4,544 nozzles with built-in monitoring and compensation. Two printheads handle CMYK, while a third can be added for white ink. Canon’s UVgel DynamicMotion Control technology ensures high-quality output even with challenging substrates.
Expanding applications through modular options
The Canon Colorado XL-series supports optional features familiar to Colorado M-series users. These include UVgel White for white ink printing, FLXfinish+ for mixed matte and gloss effects without varnish, and FLXture for textured finishes that mimic materials such as wood or leather.
Mathew Faulkner, Director of Marketing & Innovation for Canon EMEA’s Wide Format Printing Group, said the series responds to growing demand for productivity and application flexibility while simplifying operation.
“This innovative solution brings UVgel technology to the 3.2m market for the first time,” Faulkner said. “Print providers can extend their offerings to packaging and décor while maintaining consistent quality across roll-fed and rigid applications. For brands, this means campaigns with uniform finishes across all printed assets.”
The Canon Colorado XL-series will be available through Canon’s direct sales channels and accredited partners starting early 2026.
