Canon launches EOS C50 full-frame hybrid cinema camera for professionals

Canon Europe announced the EOS C50, a full-frame, RF-mount hybrid Cinema EOS camera designed for professional videographers and agile production crews. As the smallest Cinema EOS model, it offers exceptional image quality for both video and stills in a compact form.

At the core of the EOS C50 is a 7K full-frame CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC DV 7 processor. The camera supports internal RAW video recording at up to 7K 60p, high frame rate recording up to 4K 120p/2K 180p, and 32MP still photography. Open gate recording captures the full sensor area, allowing filmmakers to reframe horizontal and vertical formats and achieve cinematic visuals, including with anamorphic lenses.

Hybrid capabilities for professional video and photography

The EOS C50 functions as a true hybrid, combining 7K video with 32MP stills. Its display automatically adjusts between Cinema EOS interface for video and Canon EOS R menus for photography. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II delivers high-speed subject tracking with eye prioritization for people, pets, and birds, along with customizable autofocus speed and tracking response.

Compact, modular design for dynamic productions

The lightweight, modular EOS C50 adapts to handheld shooting, gimbals, and complex rig setups. Its detachable handle includes dual XLR inputs, control dials, a REC button, and a zoom rocker for fast-paced production. The camera supports RF lenses natively, with optional adapters for EF and PL lenses.

Advanced connectivity for modern workflows

The EOS C50 offers MIC and XLR inputs, Timecode terminal, HDMI OUT, USB-C, dual card slots for CFexpress and SD, and UVC/UAC streaming up to 60p/50p. It integrates with Canon’s Content Transfer Professional app and Frame.io Camera to Cloud for seamless production-to-post workflows.
