‘No Tithe for Olaf’ brings Nordic humor to tower defense gaming

Ancient Well Entertainment has unveiled their latest project, No Tithe for Olaf, a quirky and grimly humorous tower defense roguelite where players defend their farms from the king’s relentless tax collectors. Set in 17th-century Norway, the game offers a satirical take on rebellion, resource management, and Nordic culture.

Developed by a small Norwegian and Swedish indie team that also plays together in a folk rock band, No Tithe for Olaf blends eccentric tower mechanics with procedurally generated maps for high replayability. Players can deploy unconventional defenses like Manure Carts, Lambasting Crones, and suspiciously welcoming Taverns—each upgradeable with unique add-ons.

Experience Nordic humor and strategy in this indie roguelite

Roguelite depth meets historical satire

Every run presents a new challenge with procedurally generated paths, 15+ enemy types, and “Royal Whims” that change the rules with creative new taxes. The game’s streamlined economy revolves around three resources—Produce, Rebels, and Farmer’s Wit—encouraging players to plan ahead while adapting on the fly.

A passion project rooted in Nordic culture

“We wanted to create a small but highly replayable game that really captured our love for Nordic history,” said Chris of Ancient Well Entertainment. “It’s been incredible working with lifelong friends, blending our band experience into indie game development.”

No Tithe for Olaf is now available to wishlist on Steam. Players can also watch the announcement trailer on YouTube and follow Ancient Well on their website and social channels for updates.
