Liquid Intelligent Technologies (Liquid), a business of Cassava Technologies, has celebrated the graduation of its first Fibre TechCelerate Programme cohort in South Africa, certifying 20 SMMEs and 10 female ICT students from Walter Sisulu University.
The 2024 graduation ceremony, held in East London, also marked the official induction of 25 new SMMEs into the 2025 programme. The initiative equips small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) with technical, business, and digital skills to actively participate in projects such as the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s fibre and broadband rollout.
“This programme is more than just a skills accelerator; it’s a catalyst for transformation,” said Ziaad Suleman, CEO of Cassava Technologies in South Africa and Botswana. “We are proud to empower local businesses—especially youth and women—and invest in a digitally inclusive future for the Eastern Cape and beyond.”
Skills for South Africa’s digital future
The programme’s curriculum spans business management, fibre optics installation, occupational health and safety, digital literacy, and mentorship. Participants gain the knowledge needed to thrive in the digital economy, while fostering inclusive economic growth in the province.
“Offering SMMEs in the Eastern Cape a comprehensive and sustainable business development and ICT training prepares these enterprises for success,” said Dr Andile Ngcaba, Patron of the Cortex Hub, the programme’s implementation partner.
The ongoing fibre network installation in the Eastern Cape has already generated over 7,000 permanent and temporary jobs. Through the Fibre TechCelerate Programme, Liquid aims to expand its impact by ensuring local enterprises, government, and individuals have access to world-class connectivity and digital transformation opportunities.
Public-private partnership for progress
The collaboration between Liquid South Africa, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, and the Cortex Hub underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in accelerating digital transformation and ensuring that no African is left behind.
