Barangay Ginebra is peaking at the right time as they face Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup 2025. Coach Tim Cone is pleased with the team’s form after back-to-back wins against Converge and Phoenix.
Those victories lifted the Gin Kings to 4-2, putting them inside the top four in the standings. Ginebra is now well in contention for a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
They started the tournament inconsistently, splitting their first four games. Losses to San Miguel and NLEX showed signs of rust, but wins against Terrafirma and NorthPort provided stability.
Blackwater Struggles to Find Traction
On the other side, Blackwater has struggled to find rhythm with only one win in six games. Coach Jeffrey Cariaso’s squad has endured blowout losses against Magnolia, Converge, NLEX, Rain or Shine, and Meralco.
The Bossing are on the brink with five games left in the elimination round. Matchups against Ginebra, San Miguel, and TNT could ultimately decide their playoff fate.
Their only win offers little comfort amid a challenging stretch against top-tier teams. The remaining schedule demands urgency and flawless execution to avoid early elimination.
Ginebra Eyes Momentum Push
Ginebra’s dominant performance against Phoenix showcased their offensive depth and finishing power. The 119-112 win featured strong showings from Scottie Thompson and the bench.
They also routed Converge 85-66 in Pampanga, tightening up defensively and controlling tempo. Coach Cone credits team chemistry and sharper conditioning as key to their turnaround.
As they look to continue the surge, consistency remains the primary goal. Ginebra aims to maintain its winning form with a playoff push in sight.
