Ayumi Hamasaki drops ‘Mimosa’ as drama theme song on 27th anniversary
On 8 April, J-pop legend Ayumi Hamasaki marks the 27th anniversary of her debut with the release of her highly anticipated single, “Mimosa.” The track doubles as the official theme for Fuji TV’s drama Second to Last Love 続・続・最後から二番目の恋, a beloved series with which Hamasaki has shared a long-standing creative partnership.
“Mimosa” is a major milestone in Hamasaki’s illustrious career, marking her first time in 25 years writing a theme song for a television drama since 2000’s “SEASONS,” which was featured in Tenki Yohou no Koibito 天気予報の恋人.
A Cherished Trilogy of Theme Songs
This latest release continues a heartfelt collaboration between Hamasaki and the Second to Last Love series. She previously lent her voice to the first two seasons with “how beautiful you are” (2012) and “Hello new me” (2014). Now, with “Mimosa” closing out the third and final season, it brings a full-circle moment to a musical journey that spans over a decade.

In a statement, Hamasaki expressed her gratitude:
“I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to provide the theme song once again, following how beautiful you are and Hello new me. Through the years, there are things that change and things that remain the same – this song reflects both sides of life that everyone experiences.”
A Soulful Collaboration
“Mimosa” is composed by Kunio Tago, a longtime collaborator known for hits such as “Days” and “Key eternal tie ver..”. The track delivers a heartfelt message of support and encouragement, wrapped in a powerful yet tender melody. Its lyrics reflect themes of emotional growth and resilience—hallmarks of Hamasaki’s discography.

A New Chapter Begins
Coinciding with the release, Hamasaki will also launch her ayumi hamasaki ASIA TOUR 2025 I am ayu -epi.II-, starting 8 April in Japan. While additional tour stops have yet to be announced, excitement is already building among fans across Asia eager to witness her electrifying performances once more.
As she embarks on her 28th year in music, Ayumi Hamasaki remains a defining figure in J-pop. From her bold visuals to her emotionally charged ballads, her legacy continues to inspire generations of fans both in Japan and beyond.
