Water Mission deploys disaster response team to aid Myanmar and Thailand after devastating earthquake
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake has left devastation across Myanmar and Thailand, destroying buildings, homes, and infrastructure while causing over 150 fatalities and leaving hundreds missing. As the crisis unfolds, Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, is deploying its Disaster Response Assistance Team to assess and provide safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions to affected communities.
Providing Safe Water Amid Disaster
Clean water is critical in disaster situations to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, which can be especially dangerous for young children. Water Mission’s team will initially focus efforts in Thailand, working closely with local partners to assess urgent water and sanitation needs.
“Water Mission has responded to more than 60 disasters worldwide, including major earthquakes in Turkey and Morocco,” said Water Mission CEO and President George C. Greene IV, PE. “Our Disaster Assistance Response Team is well-versed in mobilizing quickly and collaborating with partners to deliver emergency assistance where it’s needed most.”
