Tara, let’s explore Manila: a cultural adventure made easier via CAVITEX

Beyond its bustling streets, Manila holds a wealth of history and culture—now more accessible than ever for Caviteños via the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX). Motorists from Las Piñas and Parañaque can also take advantage of the CAVITEX Sucat Interchange for a smoother journey into the city.

In line with its commitment to promoting local travel and heritage appreciation, Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) hosted Biyaheng South: Tara, Let’s Explore Manila on March 14, 2025. The event, made possible through partnerships with the Intramuros Administration, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Food Wanderer x Lakbay Museo, and Space & Time Cube, provided selected Ka-Biyaheros with a seamless and immersive journey through Manila’s cultural landmarks—all just a quick drive from Cavite via CAVITEX.

A journey through Manila’s rich heritage

Three lucky winners, along with their chosen guests, were selected through an online raffle on Biyaheng South’s Facebook page. They joined influencers on a special cultural tour exploring Manila’s historical sites, interactive exhibits, and culinary treasures.

First stop: A walk through history in Intramuros

The first leg of the tour took participants to Intramuros, the walled city brimming with centuries-old architecture and Spanish-era heritage.

  • Palacio del Gobernador set the tone for the historical adventure, leading to a ride aboard a Tranvia, a nostalgic electric streetcar reminiscent of early 20th-century Manila.
  • At Fort Santiago, visitors explored Museo ni Rizal, gaining insights into the life and legacy of the national hero.
  • The group then visited Museo de Intramuros at Centro de Turismo, featuring religious artifacts and colonial-era art showcasing Spanish influence.
  • Stops at Baluarte de San Diego and Casa Manila offered a glimpse into the past, with preserved fortifications and a beautifully reconstructed Spanish colonial home.
  • The tour concluded with a traditional Filipino lunch at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant, enhancing the cultural immersion.

Second stop: An interactive experience at Space & Time Cube PH

The adventure continued at Space & Time Cube PH at S’Maison, Pasay, an immersive art space that merges art, technology, and imagination. Unlike the historical sites, this stop offered a modern and futuristic perspective of Manila through dynamic light displays, interactive soundscapes, and engaging exhibits.

Third stop: A sensory-filled journey at Food Wanderer x Lakbay Museo

The final destination, Food Wanderer x Lakbay Museo at Ayala Malls Manila Bay, took guests on a gastronomic and cultural adventure.

  • Life-sized food displays and market recreations gave visitors a deeper appreciation of Filipino culinary heritage.
  • Participants enjoyed an interactive tasting session, sampling classic Filipino delicacies.
  • The museum’s Instagram-worthy setups provided a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

Bridging history and modern connectivity

Arlette V. Capistrano, Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management of MPT South, emphasized the event’s mission:

“Exploring Manila’s rich history through this event was a unique and immersive experience. It was an opportunity to reconnect with our history and culture while fostering a deeper appreciation for our heritage.”

“Tara, Let’s Explore Manila” was designed to encourage travelers to rediscover the historical and cultural gems of the capital. Often viewed as merely a gateway to other destinations, Manila itself is home to centuries of history and remarkable landmarks.

Through this initiative, MPT South continues to enhance connectivity, not only through expressways but by fostering deeper connections between people and places.
