LIVE A.I.D.S. 35: A Laugh Story marks UP SAMASKOM’s 50-year legacy of comedy and creativity
The longest-running comedy variety show from UP Diliman is making its much-anticipated return in 2025 for its 35th installment.
LIVE A.I.D.S. 35 (Ang Ika-tatlumpu’t Limang Istoryang Dinebelop ng SAMASKOM) will take center stage this May at the IBG-KAL Theater, marking a special edition titled A Laugh Story. This milestone event coincides with the 50th anniversary of U.P. SAMASKOM (Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Komunikasyon), a student organization renowned for its fearless satire, theatrical excellence, and creative storytelling.
The golden anniversary celebration kicked off with Gold A.I.D.S.: The Live A.I.D.S. 35 Kickoff Party on February 15 at the Edge Skyview Bar at Ibis Styles Hotel. The event brought together resident members, alumni, and supporters to unveil key activities leading up to the main show.
A Legacy of Comedy and Creative Expression
UP SAMASKOM has produced some of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment, both on and off screen. Alumni include Jervi Wrightson (KaladKaren), Giselle Sanchez, Tuesday Vargas, RS Francisco, and director Lauren Dyogi, all of whom have made a lasting impact in the industry.
One of the major projects announced at the kickoff event is a special Live A.I.D.S. album featuring a mix of classic fan-favorite songs from past editions and brand-new tracks created specifically for this year’s show. The creative and production teams were also introduced, offering an in-depth look into their vision for the landmark 35th installment.
Live A.I.D.S. 35 will also mark the directorial debut of Ken De Leon, a television writer known for his sharp storytelling and bold approach to entertainment.
A Laugh Story: A Celebration of Filipino Narratives
More than just a theme, A Laugh Story reflects the essence of UP SAMASKOM—creative freedom, boldness, and a deep commitment to storytelling that resonates with the times, according to De Leon.
“A Laugh Story is a journey through the narratives that shape who we are as Filipinos,” De Leon shared. “From bedtime tales and fairy tales to the gossip that fuels our curiosity, stories have always been central to our connections. This year’s Live A.I.D.S. celebrates these narratives, using humor and heart to remind us of the shared experiences that bring us together.”
UP SAMASKOM production manager MJ Karaan highlighted the show’s enduring impact.
