Philippines Smartphone Market grows 6.1% in 2024, driven by affordable models
According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the Philippines smartphone market grew 6.1% year-over-year (YoY) in 2024, with total shipments reaching nearly 18 million units.
This growth came despite economic hurdles such as the weakening peso and inclement weather events, highlighting the market’s resilience and the strategic efforts of smartphone vendors.
udget-Friendly Smartphones Dominate Sales
A key driver of this expansion was the rising demand for entry-level smartphones. Over 50% of total shipments in 2024 were priced below $100, making smartphones more accessible to Filipinos.
Leading this segment was Transsion, whose sub-brands Infinix, Tecno, and Itel collectively shipped over 4.8 million units at this price point. Popular models such as the Infinix Smart series and the Tecno Spark Go series helped boost sales, bringing the average selling price (ASP) down from $192 in 2023 to $179 in 2024.
Holiday Season Drives Strongest Quarter
While 4Q24 saw an 11.8% decline compared to the previous year due to early launches in prior quarters, it remained the best-performing quarter with nearly 5 million shipments, fueled by the holiday shopping season.
