The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued a reminder to citizens about the importance of holiday safety amidst the festive yet bustling season. Highlighting increased risks such as accidents, theft, and medical emergencies, the PNP also announced its enhanced emergency response capabilities through the E911 system.

Enhanced Emergency Services with E911 Technology

According to Police Brigadier General Warren Gaspar Tolito, Director of the PNP Office of Communications and Electronics Services (CES), the upgraded 911 Call Handling System ensures quicker response times, particularly in Metro Manila and provincial areas. With this advanced system, powered by Next Gen Technology from the United States, PNP first responders can now reach emergency scenes in 3-5 minutes, depending on location.

To access these services, citizens simply need to dial 911 on their cellphones or landlines and press 1 to be connected to the PNP. The system’s advanced features enable precise location tracking, ensuring efficient deployment of first responders.

Holiday Safety Tips from the PNP

General Tolito emphasized the heightened risks during the holiday season, such as:

  • Vehicular Accidents: Often caused by increased traffic or drunk driving.
  • Fires: Resulting from overloaded electrical circuits or neglected appliances.
  • Medical Emergencies: Caused by overindulgence in food, drinks, or misuse of fireworks.
  • Robberies and Break-ins: Especially in unoccupied homes.

To ensure safety, citizens are advised to:

  1. Lock and Secure Properties: Always secure doors and windows before leaving. Keep lights on to deter intruders.
  2. Exercise Caution at Home: Be vigilant when answering the door, especially to strangers.
  3. Drive Responsibly: Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
  4. Avoid Fire Hazards: Check electrical devices and Christmas lights regularly.

What to Do in Emergencies

In case of an emergency, General Tolito advises:

  1. Stay calm and provide key information to the call taker, such as the nature of the emergency, your name, and location.
  2. Share additional details like the specific area of a property, the number of people affected, or access points.
  3. For crimes in progress, observe and relay details such as the suspects’ appearance, clothing, and any vehicles involved.

“Every detail matters,” Tolito stressed. “Our advanced system allows us to locate and assist you faster, but clear and concise information speeds up our response.”

Common Emergencies Handled by the PNP

The PNP has highlighted the most frequent emergencies during the holidays, which include:

  • Vehicular accidents
  • Domestic violence
  • Public disturbances
  • Robbery and theft

DILG’s Revitalized Emergency 911 Initiative

The PNP’s quick-response capabilities stem from the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Revitalized Emergency 911 initiative. This program, implemented through the CORE system powered by NGA 911 LLC, ensures Filipinos have access to a reliable and efficient emergency service.

Call 911 for a Safe Holiday Season

General Tolito encouraged everyone to prioritize safety and make use of the enhanced 911 hotline. “We aim to respond to nearly all calls within one minute and guarantee assistance within 3-5 minutes. At the first sign of trouble, call 911 and press 1 for immediate help,” he said.

As we celebrate this joyous season, let’s ensure our holidays remain safe and secure for everyone.
