SAN DIEGO – Senior Chief Petty Officer Antonio Hombrebueno, a native of Santa Lucia, Philippines, proudly serves as a logistics specialist aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, one of the U.S. Navy’s largest and most powerful aircraft carriers.
The USS Ronald Reagan, equipped with a full flight deck and more than 60 aircraft including fighter jets and helicopters, plays a crucial role in U.S. military operations worldwide. As part of the crew, Hombrebueno brings with him not only technical expertise but also decades of dedication to service.
A Path of Service and Leadership
Graduating from Santa Lucia Catholic High School in 1992, Hombrebueno began his Navy career 25 years ago. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks to become a Senior Chief Petty Officer, a role that allows him to lead others and share the wisdom he’s accumulated through years of experience.
“I joined the Navy to make my family proud,” said Hombrebueno. “I’ve grown so much over the years, from learning new skills to becoming a leader. I take pride in the fact that people now look to me for guidance, and I’ve earned their trust through hard work and dedication.”
Core Values Rooted in Hometown Lessons
Hombrebueno credits much of his success to the values he learned growing up in Santa Lucia. “I learned to trust my instincts, stay humble, and be approachable,” he shared. “These qualities have not only helped me in the Navy but also allowed me to be a mentor to others.”
Aircraft Carriers: Powerhouses of the U.S. Navy
Aircraft carriers like the USS Ronald Reagan are at the forefront of America’s Naval forces. For over 100 years, these vessels have been vital in projecting power, providing humanitarian assistance, and maintaining global security.
Navy officials emphasize the unique versatility and strategic capabilities of aircraft carriers, which can respond quickly to international crises, operate freely in global waters, and support various missions thanks to their mobility and extensive combat capabilities.
Supporting Global Prosperity and Security
With over 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and the internet’s backbone relying on secure undersea fiber optic cables, the Navy’s ability to protect these vital assets is crucial. This highlights the importance of talented individuals like Hombrebueno in ensuring the success of global operations.
“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations. “Together, we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”
A Career Full of Accomplishments
Throughout his career, Hombrebueno has achieved many milestones, but one stands out in particular: becoming a Chief Petty Officer. “That was my proudest accomplishment,” he said. “It took patience, sacrifice, and a lot of hard work, but I didn’t get there alone. My family and my team supported me every step of the way.”
Service Beyond Self
Hombrebueno believes that his service in the Navy goes beyond personal achievement. “Serving in the Navy isn’t just about me,” he said. “It’s about serving my family, my community, and my fellow sailors. I want to ensure that I pass on what I’ve learned to the next generation.”
Gratitude to Family and Loved Ones
Hombrebueno is deeply thankful to his family for their unwavering support throughout his career. “I want to give a special thanks to my wife, Jackie, and my son, Anthony, for always standing by me. I’m also grateful to my parents and siblings for being part of this journey.”
