‘The Witcher’ Season 2: Showrunner Teases ‘Fixed Timeline’ And New Characters, Including Vesemir

The Netflix fantasy series “The Witcher” is all set to resume production of season 2 after the coronavirus lockdown. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teases that the show has been re-energized with the fixed timeline and the introduction of new characters, including Vesemir.

In an interview with The Wrap, Hissrich assured viewers of “The Witcher” season 2 that the controversial storytelling of the first season will cease to exist. There won’t be a confusing timeline anymore as the second season will have all characters mostly existing in the same timeline.

“We get to do flashbacks, we get to do flash-forwards, we get to actually integrate time in a completely different way that we weren’t able to do in season one,” the showrunner said, and then went on to talk about the new characters.

“The Witcher” season 2 will finally introduce, Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia. The character is the father figure of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia and has been well-loved in the video game series.

However, Hissrich said that viewers of “The Witcher” season 2 should look out for Remus, who will be introduced in Episode 103.

“It was, for us really, about getting Geralt back to his roots and sort of learning where he came from and what his story is and what his sense of family is.”

Speaking of family, the showrunner also said that “The Witcher” season 2 will have Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) coming together as a family unit, as it was in the books and the video games.

“When you start to imagine someone’s family, you also need to understand their family of origin. Sometimes that’s a mother and father, sometimes that’s blood relatives. For Geralt, it’s his brothers, it’s the brotherhood of the witchers,” Hissrich said. “What I think is really fun about Geralt and Ciri is they are the most unexpected family you can imagine. You have a witcher whose sole job is to kill things for money and you have a little girl who is trying to escape her past and it’s like, how do they come together? And to me, one of the most fun things we get to explore in Season 2 now is how they get to change and shift each other.”

“The Witcher” season 2 is filming in the U.K.
