The Department of Health(DOH) reminds the public anew to practice the minimum health standards needed as self protection against COVID – 19 with 30 new confirmed cases recorded in the Cordillera for the past three days.

DOH – Cordillera OIC Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan disclosed that Cordillera recorded the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in a day yesteday (June 12) with 16 positive results released by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center; seven positive cases recorded in June 11 and 7 more positive confirmatory results today for a total of 30 new cases in three days.

DOH – CAR COVID bulletin today shows there are now 87 confirmed cases recorded in the region, with 39 admitted in hospitals, 47 already recovered and one recorded death.

Of the 39 active cases, 16 are from Benguet, seven from Baguio City, six from Apayao, five from Abra and three from Ifugao and two from Kalinga.

Mountain Province remains the only province in the region that is COVID – free or with no confirmed case recorded.

With the 30 new confirmed cases in the region, Pangilinan said local health workers, local chief executives, provincial/city DOH offices and personnel from the Philippine National Police are currently working hard for the contact tracing of those who may have come in contact with the patients and on the implementation of isolation/quarantine protocols for the close contacts that will be identified.

Pangilinan calls for continuing partnership and cooperation among the people of Cordillera in preventing the further spread of infections by adhering to the basic health guidelines against COVID – 19.

The basic or minimum health guidelines that DOH is advocating include health and hygienic practices such as regular handwashing and coughing/sneezing etiquette, use of face mask and social distancing, staying at home as much as possible especially those below 21 years and and 60 years old and above, pregnat women and other medically-compromised individuals.

“We ask for the cooperation and support of all our kakaillians (fellow Cordillerans) to do their part in our struggle to stem the tide of its transmission and to remain steadfast in our resolve to Heal As One!,” Pangilinan stressed.

“Please let us take care of our own town/province mates especially if they manifest mild symptoms/or are asymptomatic. We can refer those who are critical/severe to Level 3 hospitals like BGHMC, Cagayan Valley Medical Center and Ilocos Training and Medical center”, she added. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
