Task Force Bangon Marawi distributes P10M aid to IDPs
The Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) started distributing on Monday P10-million worth of aid to more than 3,000 displaced families in war-torn Marawi City to help them cope with the community quarantine caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, concurrent chairman of the TFBM, previously approved the release of P10 million to assist Marawi City residents.
“This is the Task Force’s humble way of saying ‘we are one with our Maranao sisters and brothers not only in fighting the COVID-19 but also in the celebration of Ramadan,’” Secretary Del Rosario said.
The aid was distributed by the Marawi local government unit (LGU), with Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra and TFBM Field Office Manager Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr. spearheading the relief activity.
A total of 3,072 displaced families will benefit from the TFBM assistance. Each of the family will be receiving 25 kilograms of rice and P1,500 in cash. Displaced families from the Sagonsongan transitory shelters were the first to benefit from the relief operation.
Other targeted beneficiaries are from Boganga, Mipaga, Buadi Itowa (Bahay Pagasa), Pagalamatan, Rorogagus, Bubung Pagalamatan, Raya Guimba, Cabasaran, Pantapon areas all in Marawi and the Bakwit Villages in Matungao and Saguiaran.
Also scheduled to receive assistance are 84 families who were fire victims.
The TFBM assistance came amid the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, slated to last until May 23.
Thousands of families had been displaced following the five-month siege laid by the Daesh-inspired Maute terrorist group on May 23, 2017, at the only Islamic City in the country.
The TFBM, in close coordination with the LGU, is currently working to rehabilitate Marawi City’s central business district which served as the main battle area during the siege that ended in the killing of more than 1,000 terrorists, government troops and civilians.
